Default Categories Contain Only First Letter Of Category Name Upon Restore

We had a restore done for a user's contacts. (The contacts were overwritten
when his Blackberry was upgraded.)

The restore worked fine as far as grabbing all of the user's data in the
Contacts, with the exception of his categories. The user had in the
neighborhood of 1500 contacts. About 80% of the contacts had categories
assigned where only the first letter of the category was captured.

We are trying to figure out:
1) When backing up data on the Exchange Server, is the Master Categories
List captured as well? (I don't think it is since it is stored locally in
the Registry.)
2) If categories are going to be iffy upon a restore, how to we reconnect
them without manually reassigning the categories?

Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jenn

I can't help you with that (sorry), but I ran accross a problem with
categories and syncing an IPAQ because the IPAQ could only handle categories
with names up to 15 char long. Perhaps the blackberry has the same kind of
issue. Besides that, I think they will ask you which version you're using to
help you. I know when I was using office xp and earlier whenever I
reinstalled I lost all of my custom categories and had to put them back into
the master category list. With 2007 beta there no longer is a master list

Thanks for your reply, HangedMan.

My bad on the version. We are using Outlook 2K3 with Exchange 2K3.

I saw a post about the 15 char category limit. I do not think the
Blackberry has a limit, but I could be wrong. It gives me a place to start
though.

I look forward to when / if we upgrade to 2007.

Thanks!
