Names in the To or CC field are not recognized when I sent email, even if
they are in my Contacts folder.

I had to re-install Windows. I copied my mail file from a CD backup, and I
copied the Contact folder. I don't remember the filename or location (it was
a few months ago).

I can see all the names when I click on the Contact folder. But the names
don't get translated into email addresses when I send email. Also, if I click
on Tools Address Book, I get the following error:

The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with
this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or
you do not have permissions.

How can I fix this problem?

All Outlook data is stored in one file, so you could not have "copied" this
data separately.
All you need to do is configure your Outlook Address Book. You failed to
post your version , so we cannot tell you how. However, since that
information is posted on a daily basis here, just find a post that applies
to your version and read it.

I'm horrible at searching for things like this. My version is MS Office 2002
(10.....). Please tell (or point me to) how to configure correctly if you can.

I saw somewhere (but I can't find it again) where I made sure to select the
option which allowed Contact folder lookups, so I may have already done that
part correct.

The data came from Outlook Express on my previous PC; could it have been in
two files there?

Thanks, Russ. It worked perfectly.

Now do you know how I can get Outlook to try to anticipate what I'm typing
by the first few letters like it used to do? It was sort of like a type-ahead
featu if I typed the first few letters, say "Da", it might anticpate that
I was typing "Daddy" and fill in the rest of the field. Any idea how to get
that back?

ToolsOptionsE-mail OptionsAdvanced E-mail Options. Check the box labeled
"Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields". Then wait while it
builds up addresses as you send mail (it's not tied to your Contacts at

My dad changed email addresses, so I don't want his old email address to be
one of the auto-completion choices.
