Default Telephony registry keys are missing or damaged?

In Outlook 2003, when I enter a phone number for a contact, the number
appears as a long, unformatted string of numbers. The area code does not
appear as expected. For example, if I type 4255550187, the number does not
display as (425)555-0187. If I double-click the number, the Check Phone
Number dialog box appears, and the entire string of numbers appears in the
phone number field.

How do I repair or replace or rebuild the registry?

Set the dialing location for your operating system correctly.
