And why would you click on a link from a scumbag spammer in a newsgroup?
Don't.

Probably because I'm new to the internet...That's why I'm on here.

Being on the Microsoft site I thought it might be ok.

But now you have informed me it is spam, I will avoid clicking on anymore
links on this site

Thanks,

Geordie52

No problem - we're all new sometimes.

Being on the Microsoft site I thought it might be ok.

The link is not on a Microsoft website....see how it's called Geocities.com
? Anyone can post nearly anything in these newsgroups. Be very careful, and
trust no one. Well, except me, of course. :-)

But now you have informed me it is spam, I will avoid clicking on
anymore links on this site

Not really necessary as a hard and fast rule. And again, this isn't a
"site" - it's a newsgroup, accessible by anyone, and hosted on Microsoft
servers. You might see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsgroup

In general, it's unwise click on links from untrusted sources (meaning, you
aren't replying back/forth with someone who's trying to help you) - same
goes for email attachments. In the case of the online poker link, it has
nothing to do with Microsoft Outlook and it isn't a link posted by someone
replying to someone else's technical question about Outlook.

People spam the newsgroups all the time. Remember, clicking on a link could
give you a nasty virus or trojan or spyware. Since you're new in here, it's
a good idea to 'lurk' (i.e., read without posting) for a while to get the
hang of it.

You might take a look at microsoft.public.security.homeusers, a very useful
newsgroup. I see you're using the web interface to get to the newsgroups,
which can make some things a little harder to find, and I'm not sure how you
get to that group from the web interface. Using a real newsreader (even
Outlook Express) to connect & subscribe to the groups can make your
experience a lot easier.

Thanks,

Geordie52
