is there some way to add a pause between the number and then the extension so
when you dial from a contact it connects, and then inserts the extension
number so you get connected? Just adding the digits for the extension after
the number has been making it think its an international call.

That would depend entirely on the dialer and modem you use. Outlook does not
contain a dialer.

Typically, a comma is used for pauses, but check your modem help files to be
sure.
