Alternative SMTP server in OL Connector
Hi,
I'm using Office Live Connector to connect my Outlook to Windows Live Mail when I'm at home. Unfortunately my ISP for wireless internet service (that I use when travelling) does not allow my laptop to connect directly to SMTP.LIVE.COM server and wants that I use its SMTP server for outgoing mail. Is it possible to configure the Office Live Connector to use an alternative SMTP server instead of SMTP.LIVE.COM? I could use POP3, I know, but I don't want to download messages on my laptop. I want to connect to the server from different PCs. -- Plo |

First let me make one thing very clear. Pop3 has nothing to do with outgoing mail. POP stands for Point of Presence. It is used to download messages. To send messages, you need to configure SMTP. This is: Simple Mail Transfer (or Transport) Protocol. Yes you can set up an alternative SMTP but to do this, you need to create another account (it could be a dummy account) with correct SMTP (the one given by your ISP). In pop3 server section, you simply enter "pop3.mail.com" (or out.mail.com) and if this is not the one used by your ISP, it would fail but you are not concerned about this, right? When sending or replying to messages, you simply select your dummy account which has your designated SMTP. I do it all the time inter-changing Yahoo.co.uk with hotmail.com. You may not know but yahoo.co.uk is a free service from yahoo but for most people with yahoo.com it is not a free service. I hope you get the idea but please let me know if you want further information. hth "Paolo" wrote in message ... The answer is yes you can configure a different SMPT. But most likely the issue when you are on the road is the outgoing port which has to be set at 587 instead of 25 -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged.
