outlook 2003 - 2007 upgrade problem...
Greetings,
I'm having an issue and was wondering if anyone can help. Background: I had MS Office 2003 Professional installed on my computer. I then installed MS Office 2007 Enterprise edition. at first, everything worked.. by that, all components: word, excel, outlook, powerpoint, etc.. Then i used a registry cleaner to try and speed up the system.. didn't work out too well and basically had to re-install MS Office 2007 enterprise edition. except for outlook 2007. outlook 2003 is still installed and operates just fine. BUT... Issue: now when I try to install outlook 2007 from the DVD, it tells me that it is unavailable. i can't select any of the other installation options.. i.e. run from disk, etc. Any ideas on what the problem might be? If I uninstall Outlook 2003 and then try to install 2007, will I lose all the files/folders and/or .pst file? -- many thanks.... |

You have to uninstall OL2003, reboot prior to installing OL2007
You wont lose any data and in normal circumstances OL2007 should reconnect to the origonal Profile, but as in all PC use a data backup is wise "zaphod12" wrote in message ... DL -
thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a shot and let you know if it works.. but perhaps you can answer one more question first.... I am on a Vista machine and have tried to find the .pst file. try as I might, I can't find the c:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Outlook folder when looking through the disk with explorer. If I use Outlook's Data Management selection tool, highlight outlook.pst and then click open folder, it is there. how does one change permissions in Vista so that the entire content of a folder is displayed? this is extrememely annoying.. -- many thanks.... You have to enable ' view hidden files' in explorer folder options
To backup the data file, simply copy it to another location, with outlook closed "zaphod12" wrote in message ... DL - thanks for the suggestion. The initial suggestion of removing OL 2003 and installing OL2007 worked. the
backup .pst wasn't needed but i had two copies just in case... but now, i have trouble sending an email. The email account settings were brought in just fine, and now when I try to send a message, OL2007 goes off to never never land... all that shows is the spinning circle.. not sure if it is just trying to sort through the .pst or not. but I've tried rebooting. send/receive used to work and and now it is stuck with a send/receive. this just gets better... but where is "view hidden files" in explorer options? can't seem to find that rascal... I right click on the folder and all I can see when opening the properties selection in the dialog box for attributes are two checkboxes... one says "Read only" (only applies to files in this folder) and "Hidden". I don't think it is either one of these choices... and the "Sharing", "Security", or "Customize" tabs don't seem to have that selection. and then there is an "Advanced" button which brings up selections for archiving and indexing.. thanks for all your help. -- many thanks.... never mind about the hidden files selection.. I finally found that thing.. ya
think it would be obvious and available via a simple selection on a directory by directory basis.. nope. Not Microsoft. but OL2007 is still failing... can't seem to figure that one out yet. -- many thanks.... Initially;
Insert Office cd/dvd and select Office Diagnostics Retest, if no change, shutdown Outlook and start Outlook using the safe switch Start Run Outlook.exe /safe (note space between exe /) retest, if now ok one of your addins is causing the problem "zaphod12" wrote in message ... never mind about the hidden files selection..
