Hi, i've been searching a lot but haven't found anything useful.
Is there anything new regarding the issue with Outlook 2007 not displaying the systray alert (envelope icon), when new mail arrives and is filtered into a custom folder (not inbox)? All i've found was that "Outlook 2007 was designed like that". ....which is pretty stupid, i cannot rely on the toaster alerts etc., as the envelope icon is really handy for example when you step out for a moment (and miss the blue alert). Pop-ups are annoying, sound won't help (it's the same case as with the blue systray alert). Is there any workaround? Did anyone make some handy script, which would be triggered (i've made to set a rule for every incoming mail to show the blue alert, so maybe i could add an application-launching to this rule) to create an alert, which would persist somewhere (NOT as a new popup window, it would be a mess as i receive cca 100 e-mails during the working day)? The systray icon change would be the best of course, but any other workaround would be good too. So, just a summary: - Outlook 2007, rules set to filter new mail to custom (server-side) folders - an alert needed for ALL new mail (not inbox-only) - systray icon would be the best - OR anything which would not be annoying but would stay till i focus on Outlook - for example also changing the Outlook task bar would be a way, too... anything. ....or, by chance, is there any insider information that Microsoft would be willing to add back that option? I understand that some people did not like that (i've seen a comment saying that the decision to remove this feature was based on feedback... fair enough), but it still may be optional... Please! It's a tiny thing but it would make work so much easier. Thanks for any information... |

There is nothing new and there won't be anything new for Outlook 2007.
The only work around I know: a custom unread folder that includes all the folders you need alerts for. Put it on the favorites folder list and if its bold, there is an unread message. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Thanks Diane,
(sorry if my reply appears more times, i got an error when trying to post it) the thing is, i have of course created an undread folder (actually a virtual folder, one of various - undread mail, today's mail, this week's mail, mail sorted by person, ... etc), but this all wants you to open the Outlook window and check it. In case that you'd have the systray icon, you would not have to. The only workaround i've learned about is to edit a registry value (i'm sorry i cannot remember which one as i'm not at the computer with Outlook at the moment), which defines the length of the blue systray alert which would disappear normally after 30 seconds the latest. This way, you can make the alert sit there for let's say days - there will be always only one alert about the latest mail, and closing it won't reveal an older (in other words, if 50 mails arrive, you don't have to close 50 alerts). It's not a real solution, but it works *somehow*... I hope that the microsoft guys will change their mind and will change this "feature" in some service pack or something. Who does not want this functionality, can switch it off anytime... Diane Poremsky [MVP] pÃ*Å¡e: There is nothing new and there won't be anything new for Outlook 2007.
