Whenever I open Outlook 2007 I get an error message telling me it needs to
close. It worked perfectly for over a year.
I have tried the repair tool that some sites suggest.
I have removed Office from control panel and resinstalled.
Neither worked.

Any suggestions?

Uninstalling Outlook, or Office rarely helps
What is the exact err.msg?

correct - scanpst.exe
exact error message (which occurs during databinding - as per bottom left
had corner) is "microsoft office outlook has encountered a problem and needs
to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience". underneath you get the usual
stuff about info may be lost, please tell microsoft about this problem, and a
tickbox to restart outlook".

All in all, not muc further info I'm afriad.

And if you run an Office repair using the Office cd?
And or;
Maybe changing from Outlook Today to, say, your Inbox as the startup folder
in the options would eliminate the frustration you are having at seeing this
message.

Tried repair, no success.
Can't try changing the options, as even if i click on tools as outlook is
opening it doesn't activate the menu before the error message presents itself
- and i can't do anything from that point as it says it is not responding.

Any other suggestions?

tried this, but never got them to work.
reinstalled outlook 2003, it opens and I can find my data in recovered
folders in lost and found - but when i click on calendar I get a list view of
invitations, but it doesn't offer me the traditional calendar view. Does this
help isolate the corrupt file?

any other suggestions?

If you have Lost & Found folders, you should consider creating a new PST and
making it your delivery location, then moving the data from the old PST to
the new.

In Control Panel, start the Mail applet. Select the Data Files tab and add
the new PST there. That is also where you make it the delivery location
with the "Set as Default" button after you've added it. Then start Outlook.
You'll have your new PST and its default folders (empty, of course). You'll
also see your old PST folders, if you use the Folder List view in the
Navigation Pane. Open each of the old folders, select the items in it with
Ctrl-A and then right-click and drag the selection to the proper new default
folder. For the old calendar, display it first in a table view like By
Category before using Ctrl-A.

When you're done copying, remove the old PST from Outlook by right-clicking
its root and choosing Close.
