Hi,
I have an email rule setup that does what I need, but need to not process an Outlook feature. Outlook plays a sound when an email arrives. The rule I have setup moves the email to a folder upon arrival. The problem is it plays the sound (as does all email) when it arrives. I am monitoring a sys log, so there is a good bit of email and it comes often. I tried the option to play a unique sound in the email, and recorded a WAV file of just silence. However, the default Outlook feature still plays the sound when this syslog email arrives. How can an email rule override this Outlook feature of playing the sound for all email upon arrival? Thanks. |

Depends on the version of Outlook. For Outlook 2003 prior to, I believe, SP1 and earlier versions of Outlook, the new mail alert would happen prior to rules running and the sound would play. For Outlook 2003 SP1 (or was it SP2 - I forget) and later, rules run before the new mail alert action, so if your rule moves a message, you won't hear the bell unless the rule ads a new mail alert to its actions. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

To the best of my knowledge, That Outlook shouldn't play a sound unless the message stays in the Inbox once rules are finished. I don't know what else to say. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Thanks for your posting.
I have setup other email rules, and this sound behavior is the same. Do you have another source I can go to for information? Thanks.....
