I have Outlook Standard 2007 loaded on my PC Desktop using Windows XP with
SP2 which is hardwired to my (2Wire) modem/router. Outlook is currently setup
and working there. I have since purchased a Toshiba Laptop using Vista which
is home networked wirelessly. I also have Outlook Standard 2007 loaded and
working on it.

I want to sync my contacts and calendar between both, no matter which one I
last changed. I'm not worried about sync'ing anything else (however, if
anything else needs to be included, then I will include that, too).

I have been told that if I had Outlook 2007 Pro I could easily do this.
However, since I don't have the Pro, is there a way to sync (at least) the
contacts and calendar? Someone I recently spoke with suggest also looking
into some 3rd party software which I would prefer to not use unless it is the
only way (any suggestions if I need to go this way?).

I look forward to any and all replies. Thank you in advance.

Hi Greg,

there is no "Tool" or integrated way in Outlook to synchronize 2 Computers
or 2 PST files.

for Microsoft Outlook" (http://sync2.com). It indicates that it does what I'm
wanting but I'm a little sceptical. It has as part as it's header:
"Corporation 4Team" and "Find us @ Microsoft Office Marketplace". Are you
familiar with this software?

I looked at the web sites you gave me and they appear to use an Exchange
Public Folder and a Public ShareFolder. Since this is the first time I'm
networking my home PC and Laptop, I'm not really familiar with these
concepts. Is this all done only on my PC and Laptop, or is it done via a
remote server? I'm not sure that I care to have my personal files on a public
folder that others might be able to view.

I appreciate what you sent me and if you can enlighten me even more, I'll be

All this solutions are done in your network, not with a remote server.

shared network drive or any other "available" storage and then it
synchronize several PCs with this additional "file/database".

I think they use this way, because Outlook normally can not connect the same

same problem, so this tool needs a 3rd file/database, seperate to the laptop
and desktop PST file.

I try to make not to much "marketing" in my answer. Outlook can not
connect/share PST file with several users in the same time.

Public ShareFolder can do this. You can share the PST file on your Desktop
with your laptop, live. In addition to the Public ShareFolder function you
can synchronize selected folders with the Public SyncTool (also on our
website), between the Notebook and the PC. Outlook can be opend on the PC
and on the Laptop. Public SyncTool is free for licenses Public ShareFolder
user so have a sharing and synchronzation solution.

Another way could be to store the PST file on a USB stick and then you can
work with the same PST file on the Laptop and on the Desktop. The main
problem for this solution is, that you have to make a backup very often,
because if your USB stick get lost or damaged, all items are lost. Network
drives are unsupported by Microsoft, but I do not know if USB sticks are
"network drives".

Today I made time to view the Sync2 Demo. It didn't indicate, unless I
misunderstood something, that one would need to also have or access an
exchange server. However, I am still thinking about all of this. Perhaps the
easiest way to handle this would be to upgrade to Office 2007 Pro which
several people have told me will do the sync'ing I'm looking for. I've owned
my current program for only a few months now not knowing I would soon be
owning a laptop and running into this problem.

Hi Greg,

Perhaps the
easiest way to handle this would be to upgrade to Office 2007 Pro which
several people have told me will do the sync'ing I'm looking for.

No Outlook version will "sync" all your items between 2 PCs. Outlook 98/2000
had have a function named "Netfolders" but this is nor more supported since
Outlook 2002.

You will always need additional software or "providers" (Google, Hotmail,
IMAC, OneNote etc.). Outlook has no built in function to synchronize
selected folders.
