Does anybody know why my outlook 2002 does not retain email account
passwords. The passwords disappear after program is re-loaded.

That's the most common manifestation of the incompatibility between Vista
and OL 2002. The registry keys that contained that informaiton in earlier
versions of Windows do not exist in Vista.

I have the same problem with Outlook (in my case, Outlook on Office XP), the
retention of password settings and Vista that clearly many other people have
had. I've read Microsoft article 290684 and tried to follow its instructions.
(I say "tried" only because maybe I've made some mistake when following the
instructions.) The problem still isn't resolved. One suggestion is that I
disable the email scanning section of my antivirus software (I'm using AVG /
Grisoft which works fine on my XP machine) but I'm concerned that by doing so
I might be vulnerable to viruses etc. Do you have any thoughts about this
particular point -- and of course about generally getting Outlook to remember
my password. Thank you.

The answer is right before your post - Outlook 2002 requires a registry key to retain passwords that does not exist in Windows Vista. You will ALWAYS have this issue and it cannot be fixed.
