How do I synchronize outlook.ost with the Microsoft Exchange Serve
I am running Outlook 2002 SP3 on Win XP Pro SP1. I plan to upgrade to SP2,
but I haven't done it yet. Under Tools | Send/Receive Settings, I have checked Make This Folder Available Offline. I recently moved a large number of messages from my Inbox to a Personal Folder which is not stored on the Exchange Server, but instead is stored on a separate server and backed up on a flash drive on my own computer. This reduced the size of my Outlook Today mailbox on the Exchange Server to 246 MB -- counting both Inbox and Sent Items as indicated via Tools | Mailbox Cleanup | Ckick here to see the size of your mailbox. However, my outlook.ost file remains at 555 MB.

Outlook will compact the .ost file as it finds free time on your machine.

I thought so, too, but this did not occur over the course of the past day.
However, shortly after posting my query, I discovered Knowledge Base article 289987. Method 2 took about 3 hours, but it worked. Now my outlook.ost file is 274 MB.
