Same problems here as well. Upgraded from XPpro and Office 2007 beta (all
working reasonably well together) to Vista Business and RTM Office 2007 (and now the only real issue I'm having is very slow email receiving - sendind seems fine). I'm not noticing extreme memory or CPU usage and my UI seems to be normnal in performance. I'm using an Exchange 2003 POP3 connection. Windows Vista mail exhibits the same symptom. including in safe modes. I'm reduced to using the Outlook 2003 web client until this is resolved. No problems finding very similar threads all over the internet on this.... "Eddie" wrote: Just to add... The slow downloading of email from the server (any mail server) happens in both IMAP and POP3. I am running some of the latest gear, with a 6MB DL internet connection. Again, things work better with XP, and on every system that we have migrated over to Vista/Office 2007 Office Outlook runs like a molassess. I would not recommend this to anyone who has corporate relying on email. You will spend more time trying to fix this (and the email still won't D/L properly in that time) than you would unloading office 2007 and putting office 2003 back on. We have tried everything to get this to go. Regards, Eddie "Eddie" wrote: Outlook is not capable of downloading mail from a POP3 server. The same sOutlook on XP would work great. What is with Outlook 2007 and Vista that would make any receiving call to the POP3 server run like molassess? |

Hey Mark:
Well it is Day # 7 since I upgraded and lost my POP3 functionality on OL2003. So far I've had many MVPs advise me to (1) Turn off my antivirsus scanning software (2) Do a clean upgrade of Vista and (3) Stop bugging MS with this issue. NICE! We pay our bucks and they tell us to take a hike. I'd just like someone to explain to me, a cold lonely canadian engineer, why it is that OE works just fine and OL sucks under VISTA. Day 7 and I'm, like many others here on this discussion group, still waiting on an answer. Cold in Canada (-53 C recorded in Winnipeg) "Mark" wrote: Same problems here as well. OK OK. I think I've partially solved this issue. Vista seems to have some
compatibility ssue with some firewalls (Linksys in my case), update your firmware and let me know if this makes a difference for you. It seems to have worked for me. Good Luck! Take a look at the post. I fixed it by upgrading the firmware of the router.
The fix deals with the TCP Window Scaling issue with Windows Vista. Good Luck. "Cold in Canada engineer" wrote: Same problem here, but I've been on the issue for days now and I'm still getting the MS runaround. Interestingly MS MAil, aka Outlook Express, that shipped with VIsta has no problems handling POP3 servers. I read as more and more people are having this problems, yet MS still does not have a satisfactory answer. I spoke for 4 hours with a MS Outlook Engineer who diagnosed my issue and basically told me that there is a major problem here. As a long time user of MS product I'm somewhat disturbed that MS is taking this issue so lightly. What do we have to do to get someone, ie the developers, take a look at the issue and present a solution. I mean its not impossible, MS Mail handles POP3 very well with no time out. Cold in Canada Engineer "Bernd Michitsch" wrote: Hi, well I´ve the same problem described in the first post! I did the following: Installed Outlook 2007 on a Win XP system. Everything worked great. After that I installed Vista on the same machine and tried to sync my mails from the pop3 accounts. The thing now is, that the download speed is 9 kb!! It took me 60 minutes to get a mail with 1MB!! Downloading files from the net still works... Perhaps anyone out there has a solution! Thanks! I thought that adding memory would solve the problem of the sqlserver and
svchost hogging all the system resources--both cpu and memory. But the more memory I've added, the slower it gets. The sqlserver which I've heard is supposed to release memory to other programs just sits there chewing it up while everything else comes to a screeching halt. It reached 500 mb at times, and had to be shut down just to be able to download email. What is svchost and why is it that shutting it down seems to make the system REALLY fast. Will adding more than 1.3 mb improve anything, or will it just continue to chew it up? How is it even possible for one program to require half a megabyte of RAM and still require paged memory? Hi Cold in Canada: I am right with you. Outlook 2007 is extremely slow and really effects my CPU. It goes between 90 and 100% whenever it is open. Does anyone know why this is? |
