I installed Office 2003 upgrade but when I attempt to open Outlook 2003, it
hangs and does not respond. I get the error report that it is caused by an incompatibility with early versions of WinFax Pro and directs me to the Symantic website which just confirms the incompatibility (no solution given.) The real corker is that I uninstalled WinFax Pro years ago, but obviously there are some residual files somewhere on my hard drive (which, when I did search, I found and removed one .dll attibuted to WinFax Pro.) Anyone have any suggestions or solutions? I don't use Outlook for email, but do have calendar and an extensive contact list I need to access. |

There have been a number of posts recently re OL2003/Winfax Pro problem,
even though winfaxpro is not installed and never was. It was reported that MS was aware of the problem and looking into it. "lambro" wrote in message ... Thanks DL.
What to do now? (I have a feeling this is not high on MS priority list.) I have unsuccessfully attempted to reinstall Outlook 2000...I suspect I will have to uninstall the entire suite until a fix is found. PS Is there somewhere a consumer can see what software incompatibilities exist before they purchase a product? With the WinFax situation and the Word 2003/Acrobat 5.0 "instability" issue, I am less than a happy camper... Not everyone experiences this problem, I have OL2003 running happily with
WinFax Pro, allthough WinFax is not used via OL Others have experienced this problem even when they have never installed any Symantec app "lambro" wrote in message ... Thanks DL. What to do now? That bit of information makes it even more confounding.
Anyway, for anyone else who may have this problem, or wants to avoid it, during the Office 2003 install process do a custom install and do not remove OL2000 and don't install OL2003. I had to uninstall the entire suite then reinstall w/o Outlook 2003. I am still using OL2000, but that is fine with me...at least it works! Bad advice. No one should ever be advised to mismatch their office
applications. You will lose far more functionality in the end. It will be far better for others to wait for Microsoft's solution. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "lambro" wrote in message ... When is that supposed to occur? No one from MS has even attempted to answer
my post or others with the same problem....all I've heard is it is being "looked into" (and that didn't come from an MS rep.) I'd rather lose functionality than not have any function at all....at least until there is an MS solution. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Bad advice. Be my guest. Just don't advise others to do the same as you. Recovery from
mismatched versions can get pretty ugly. I'm sure you'll post back when it does. In case you hadn't noticed, these are peer to peer groups. "MS reps" do not monitor or respond here. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "lambro" wrote in message ... When is that supposed to occur?
