Default Upgrading from Outlook 2000 sp1 to Outlook xp standard (2002)

I'm upgrading two PC's running XP from Outlook 2000 SP1 to Outlook XP
standard 2002. In the past I've had problems getting email and the contacts
to come into outlook in a new version.

The 2002 is a full-install, not an upgrade.

What is the best approach to this process?

Thanks,

Tony

After installing the new vesion, create a new mail profile and point it at
the old data.

On these PC's one of them has Outlook Express with old mail (because the user
forgot what version he was using) mail & Outlook 2000 with newer mail.

After I create the email address and it check email properly, will it
autoatically import email from both versions of outlook? Also i don't want
duplicate contacts. How do I make sure only one set of cntacts are imported?

Thanks,

Tony

No, not automatically. What you do is re-use the Outlook 2000 data file so
everything that was stored in Outlook 2000 appears in Outlook 2002 just like
it did.

Reconnect your old Outlook data file

The next step is to merge in the Outlook Express data; this process requires
both Outlook and Outlook Express to be installed. To move OE messages, use
'File|Export|Messages' from within OE. To move OE address data, use
'File|Import and Export||Import Internet Mail and Addresses' from within
Outlook 2002. Why use one program for addresses and the other for messages?
Because Outlook does a better job of moving address data than does OE while
OE does a better job of moving messages than does Outlook.
