Default Outlook accessing all drives...

I'm having an issue with Outlook 2003 on computers that have mapped network
drives or USB external hard drives. Everytime Outlook goes to do something
(open mail, reply, etc) it searches these drives for some reason.
All my network drives are connected as I have seen posts to check and make
sure that they are not in a disconnected state. I did try disconnecting them
(not really an option in the corporate environment I'm in) and it will still
pause when accessing the USB hard drive. The external USB hard drive has to
spin up before Outlook will respond.

What I'm wondering is if there is a setting somewhere to tell Outlook to
search only the C: drive, or limit the drive search in some way?

How about is there any way to tell Outlook not to search any drives?
