Default Outlook 2003 slow to start

I have read through these discussions and searched kbase but haven't found
any questions or solutions that fit mine. I have Windows XP and Office 2003,
a new computer with 3.8Ghz processor, 2048m memory, plenty of HD space, and a
broadband Internet connection. I recently installed Outlook 2003 from my
Office CD and right from the beginning it's been very slow to start, like 4
minutes. In my task manager I see 2 instances of Outlook in the applications
tab and they both show "not responding." If I stop either one, then Outlook
closes. In the processes tab of my task manager it only shows 1 process of
Outlook. Once Outlike finally loads and runs then I only have 1 instance of
Outlook in the applications tab. Also, once it's running, it runs just fine,
no sluggishness or other slowdowns. My only problem is when it first starts
up.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, uninstalling and running some
registry cleaners then reinstalling, running the detect & repair, and various
combinations of the above, etc. Nothing has helped. I don't have/use any
exchange servers or other MAPI accounts and I'm wondering now (from reading
the discussions around here) if Outlook is going out and looking for
something that's not there. If that's the case, how do I disable Outlook from
looking for network servers. If that's not the problem, any ideas what is and
how I can fix it?
--Thanks
