Default windows desktop search not working

I have windows desk top search on two computers, both of which are running
Office 2007 beta. I had to uninstall on one and reinstall with update for
Office 2007 beta and this works well now. However, on my laptop, even though
I installed the version for Office 2007 beta, it is still not working. When I
look at the Indexing Options in the Control Panel, I get a "waiting for
status "message which just stays there. Also, when I check the Options in
Outlook, the folders to be searched in Indexing in Search Options are grayed
out. How can I activate the search please?

Tried reinstalling it already? Make sure you don't have any previous version
of WDS installed and give it some time to build the initial Outlook (keeping
Outlook overnight should do the trick).

Default windows desktop search not working

I leave outlook open almost every night. A few weeks ago, I uninstalled Beta2
and installed Office2007 Trial. It took a while to the indexing to complete,
but at some point it apparently did finish, and I stopped getting the
search-warning that it might not be complete because the indexing had not
been completed --BUT THEN....
The next day, when when I did a search, the search-warning returned, saying
that it had 800 items left to index. The following day, it had 1200 items
left to index. The number of items left to index has pretty much continued to
increase over the last week, such that now I have 8756 items left to be
indexed.
What's really going on here. Frustrated. --Katy's Office.

Default windows desktop search not working

I have the same problem.
Indexing appears hung. Outlook never indexes the last 2210 Outlook items.
Even after I rebuild all the indices in Vista it still has this problem.

"Vista says 8,237 indexed. Indexing complete."

Outlook says " Outlook is currently indexing your items Search results may
be incomplete because items are still being indexed. 1839 items remaining in
personal folders. 2210 items remaining across all open mailboxes"

What is going on? Can this be a corrupted .pst? Or what? It NEVER
finishes!!! Does indexing service have a problem with laptops? I am
stressed because Windows Vista Ultimate and Office ultimate just keeps giving
me fits like this and it's an embarressment as it keeps me from getting work
done.

I, too, have a variation on this theme. I haved a new clean install of Vista
and of Office 2007 Standard. In Outlook any search produces the message
"Instant search encountered a problem while trying....." I have run Scanpst
on the file and tried to reindex in the Control Panel. The problem there is
that in Indexing Options it says that Indexing is not running and evrything
else is greyed out, so I cannot get indexing restarted. I am hoping someone
here can help me (and evidently others) with this.

Right click "Computer" or "My Computer", select "Manage", then "Services and
Applications" "Services" "Windows Search". Set this to "Automatic" and
press "Start" to start the service. This should get the Indexing Options in
Control Panels working. I am not sure about Outlook but try it.

Default windows desktop search not working

I had Windows Desktop Search on previous computer at work. It searched my
hard drive, Outlook, and network folders, among other things. I just got a
new computer, again with Office 2007, and the Windows Search option doesn't
seem to be activated. Following ammoun's advice, I got as far as "Services",
then didn't see a "Windows Search" subcategory. So I went to "Indexing
Service", changed the Startup type to "Automatic" and clicked on "Start." I
got a panel saying "Unable to open service CiSvc for writing on local
computer. Error 5: Access is denied. Thoughts?
