Default Office97 Outlook will not work with Outlook2003 expired trial vers

Hi,
I have a new laptop (Toshiba) - which came with Office2003 software - that
after 90days expired! I had no idea this software was only a "trial"
version. So to make a long story short, I could not afford the $150 to
install the full version SO I installed my previous Office97 software -
thinking this would "fix" my access problem with Outlook, Word and
Excel..............................only IT DID NOT! When I try to access
Outlook, it still pulls up the Office2003 version (which I am locked out of).
Can anyone tell me how to fix this ?????
thank you in advance for your help with this issue, cindi

Default Office97 Outlook will not work with Outlook2003 expired trial

Dell,
I did not uninstall - because I can not access Outlook to back-up/export my
..pst files - and I'm afraid uninstalling will delete all my information.
I've been reading the newsgroup discussions - and went to a link trying to
access Outlook to back-up. Because it was a trial version - I'm still locked
out. Any ideas on how to not loose all my information in Outlook???
Thanks for your help!

cindi,
You could copy the *.pst file in a back-up folder then restore it when
Outlok 97 is installed. I'm not sure, however, if the datafile is backwards
compatible. An outlook 2003 file may not work with outlook 97. You might want
to give it a try.

Just to add to Dell's information : as per outlook help, even if you
are using 2003 outlook - the pst file may be in 97-2002 format. This
can be seen through tools menu-options-Mail setup-data
files-settings for the pst file you want to look at. So to see that,
you would need a system with outlook already installed in another
system from where you can view the properties of this pst file :-)

Also take a look at
