"Send/Receive" does not work automatically.
 

I have (1) read through the numerous posting on this site on this subject,
and (2) have several conversations with my computer builder/guru - all of
which have focussed on the setting of send/receive intervals and making sure
the option to automatically send receve is checked.

Only one responder happened to mention that the "Disable Scheduled
Send/Receive" option needs to be UNCHECKED.

This is so simple, so obvious, it appears that all of the other responders
have failed to think of this.

I appreciate the "thinking outside the box." I have UNchecked that option
and Outlook send/receive seems to now be working. I don't understand why that
option would be checked.

It isn't by default.
It's checked only if you did so.

And, on reflection, I realize I DID check this option.

I realized that "send" in a new email sent the email to the Outbox, but it
was immediately sent. I have just reinstalled Windows and Office. In Outlook
2003 in XP Home, email went to Outbox and stayed there until either (1) next
send/receive scheduled event, or (2) I clicked "send/receive." My computer
builder/guru suggested checking this "disable..." box to "hold" "sent" items
in Outbox, until I clicked "send/receive" etc.

Issue is that with that "Disable..." checked NO automatice send/receive was
happening, not even when opening the program.

I am baffled at this apparent contradiction of settings, i.e., if I
"disable..." NO send/receive takes place, except manually. If I uncheck the
"Disable..." "sent" mail does not stay in Outbox, even momentarily.

Having items stay in Outbox was very handy, if I realized I need to correct
something in what I just sent.

How and when mail is sent is also controlled by your mail account,
connection type, and online status--none of which you mentioned. There are
no contradictions here, just incomplete understanding and incomplete
information.

undoubtedly resolve the issue, but I have searched, etc., and can find no
combination of settings, etc., to resolve the problem.

Can you point me in a more precise direction?
