Default how to increase # of results from "Check Names" in new message

We have a user that is typing names in the To: line of her Outlook client,
and then uses the "Check Names" icon to resolve the name to an entry in the
Global Address List. Sometimes there might be as many as 50 or 75 matching
names, but it will only show about 20 or 30. What determines the number of
names returned by this tool, and is there any way to increase the default
number of results returned so that it is more comprehensive? She would like
to see all the matching results whenever she uses the "Check Names" feature.

Thanks,

AJ

Can you explain the logic that is hard-coded so I can explain to the user WHY
it only returns a certain number of results?

Thanks,

AJ

I would imagine it's for performance reasons, but only Microsoft could tell you for sure.

Hi,

Outlook maintains a nickname list that is used by both the automatic name
checking and the automatic completion features. The nickname list is
automatically generated while you use Outlook. If the nickname cache is
corrupted, Outlook may not be able to identify recipients, may offer
incorrect recipients when automatically completing the e-mail address, or may
send the message to the wrong person.

The original poster's question related not to the autocomplete list but to the dialog that appears when the user invokes Check Names. The autocomplete list stored in the .nk2 file is *not* used in name resolution, only for autocomplete.

While not in play in this post, there is some autoresolution data stored in
the NK2 file, too. The information that allows Outlook to put a green dash
or red squiggle under names you have manually resolved in the past is stored
there, too. Hardly anyone sees that anymore because autocompletion always
supersedes autoresolution, but it's still there. The guys at Ingressor
didn't believe me at first until I made them do a more thorough autopsy on
an NK2 file, and sure enough, there it was, just like in the days of NICK
(NK2 files and NICK files are essentially the same thing).
