outlook xp has stopped working

I am running office xp pro on vista home premium and now get the error
"outlook has stopped working" When I click 'check online for a solution' it
wants me to upgrade to a newer version. It then closes outlook and will not
start. I don't want to upgrade. Any suggestions on how to get outlook to
run without upgrading?

If you reboot the PC does outlook then work?
Inserting the Office cd and running detect repair doesn't help?
If you search to include hidden for *.pst what are the sizes of the
resulting files?

Outlook 2002 is not compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7.

But as you well know that doesn't stop outlook functioning, other than the
password issue

I do not believe that's the only possible problem, only the most common.

I have had minor issues with outlook xp since office service pack 3 was
installed, but have been running it for over a year before getting this
error. It seems microsoft has slipped something in one of their updates to
force an upgrade since gates lost so much money with the stock market crash.

I agree. My Outlook 2002 was installed in April 2009 on a laptop running
Vista Home Premium and was working until May 1, 2010. Is this related to an
update and, if so, will Microsoft provide a fix?

I trust you don't actually believe this to be the reason.

There will be no fix. Office XP is well documented to be unsupported on
Windows Vista and 7. "Unsupported" means, among other things, "no fixes".
You're on your own if something breaks when you wilfully use an unsupported
configuration.

If they didn't, it seems like quite a coincidence that all of a sudden it
would just stop working when no changes were made to my system, other than
microsoft updates, when it has been working since I installed it on my new
computer a year ago.

Besides, how can it not be compatible with vista when outlook xp was
included in one of the most current versions of office when vista was
released?

If you can't explain why it would suddenly stop working, I can't see any
other explanation than microsoft put something in or took something out of
vista to deny access to this program.
