Scanpst and Outlook 2007
I have used scanpst from time to time to repair my Outlook.pst. I
usually run it a few times on Outlook.pst until it reports that it finds no error. Then I start up Outlook that reads Outlook.pst and mounts it as my Personal Folder. Sometime later, I shut down Outlook and out of curiosity, I run scanpst again on Outlook.pst. This time scanpst again reports that it finds problems and offers to fix it, I run it a few times on the PST until no error is found. I start up Outlook again and the cycle repeats. So, Outlook 2007 "corrupts" Outlook.pst every time it is accessing the PST? Until now, Outlook 2007 has not yet failed to open Outlook.pst for me and I do back up Outlook.pst regularly but this worries me a little. |

Do you have any third party tool accessing the pst, eg a Desktop Search
Tool? And if you start Outlook using the safe switch, then after shutting down, then running scanpst does it then find errors? I ran scanpst on Outlook.pst and fixed the PST after three times of
scanning and fixing session. I then started Outlook with /safe switch (I noticed the navigation pane was off, the navigation buttons returned to default settings, etc), and let Outlook run for a while. Then I shut down Outlook and ran scanpst on Outlook.pst, same thing happened, scanpst detected errors in the PST and offered to fix the errors. Ran scanpst three times (scanning and fixing) and scanpst detected no error on the fourth scanning. I do have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 scanning incoming/outgoing emails and so far I haven't seen any visible problem with Outlook. Could it be the anti-virus engine? Isn't running Outlook in Safe Mode supposedly turn off all the add-ins and such? I have the following add-ins active in Outlook: .. COM Addin for Microsoft Office Outlook Connector .. Kaspersky Outlook Anti-Virus Addin .. MAPILab NNTP Add-in .. Office Genuine Advantage Add-in -----Original Message----- From: DL ] Posted At: Monday, November 02, 2009 5:23 PM Posted To: microsoft.public.outlook Conversation: Scanpst and Outlook 2007 Subject: Scanpst and Outlook 2007 Do you have any third party tool accessing the pst, eg a Desktop Search Tool? What symptoms occur? No symptoms yet so far. I am just following some of the good practices advised in several excellent Outlook websites operated by some of the MVPs here. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? -----Original Message----- From: Gordon ] Posted At: Tuesday, November 03, 2009 1:18 AM Posted To: microsoft.public.outlook Conversation: Scanpst and Outlook 2007 Subject: Scanpst and Outlook 2007 "Surya Halim" wrote in message news:84E69C5C6161417CB8D0938002605AEF@e65h...
