create folder on local drive
 

Hi I am using Outlook (SP3) that comes with office 2003. Anyhow just
wondering if you can create a folder to place older emails that resides on
the local machine as our email server only allows a small amount of memory
for each user.

Assuming your administrator allows it, go to File, New, Outlook data file.

thanks for the reply, not sure if it worked but it looks like it created a
personel folder. I moved an email into this folder and closed outlook. I
did a search on the computer though for *.pst and it could not find any files.

It's located in a hidden folder. The exactly location depends upon your O/S.

Well, and your personal preference since you can place it pretty much
anywhere you like ;-)
To see the current location use;
File- Data File Management...

Thanks for the responses, looks like there is a file there. Just wondering
if there is a way to see how much memory my outlook is using on the mail
server?

Also not sure if it is working as I created the *.pst file that is a size of
265k. I then added a bunch of stuff into this folder but the folder remained
the same size.

if you mean how much disk space, you can right-click the top level folder of
your mailbox, select "Properties", and click the button that says "folder
size"...

It would depend on what kind of messages you put in there. If they hold 5MB
attachments, then something could be wrong indeed.
Verify that you are looking at the correct file, you might need to refresh
your Explorer screen if you are looking at it simultaneously.

Note that there could be a write delay. If you close Outlook, does the file
size show correctly after a few minutes then?
