Outlook 2002 and IMAP: Fails to stay connected to IMAP server
Good day, everyone!
I'm using Outlook 2002 and Gmail's IMAP service. I'm trying to figure out where the fault lies with my issue. My issue is that Outlook will lose connection to Gmail's IMAP service after a period of inactivity, which prevents me from knowing when I receive new email during this loss of connection. I have to enable a POP3 check to indicate I have mail in case the connection has failed. I have this incoming mail then automatically deleted. Has anyone had this problem? Is this an issue with Outlook or Gmail's IMAP service or just the nature of the beast? Does anyone have an alternative to having a POP3 check to see if I have mail? I can get duplicate alerts sometimes if I check the IMAP before the POP3 checks. Thanks in advance for your great help! -Kevin |

My Gmail IMAP account exhibits the same behaviour, but since Gmail is of
secondary importance to me, I'm not concerned (outlook 2007) "Hai-Peng" wrote in message g.com... Anyone? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! "Hai-Peng" wrote in message g.com... It's a limitation of either outlook or imap as it happens to me fairly
often. gmail has a new mail alert as do other devs - so there should be some thing available to alert you. (I've never tried these tools as I don't want to be alerted to new mail in my gmail acct - new mail alerts are productivity killers. ) -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Having the exact same problem with Gmail IMAP and Outlook 2007. I've searched
high and low, and no one seems to have a solution -- though plenty of people seem to be in the same boat. Curiously, this is a recent development -- it started happening just a week or two ago. I've tried deleting and recreating the account within Outlook, but no luck. Sure hoping there's a Microsoft expert out there who can help!
