What instructions where and what EXACTLY do you mean by "with no luck"?

The instructions are to create a new profile by double clicking the mail icon in control panel, click show profile, click add, etc. I have tried this but must be doing something wrong as I still receive the same"cannot open default e-mail folders" message.

Did you create a new Profile, add a new data file and the account(s), and
set prompt for Profile?
