Outlook is still sending read receipts when they are turned off
Hi All,
In outlook 2007, I have an exchange account and an imap account setup. In tools-options-Email Options-Tracking Options I have it set to "Never send a response" for read receipts. But for some reason people are still receiving read receipts from me when ever I read emails in my imap account. How can I stop this happening? |

How can I stop this happening? Read receipts or delivery receipts? The latter is a function of the mail server and if it's configurable, you would have to configure it on the server. If read receipts, I can conceive of it being a function of the server as well, but that's unusual. You could verify if there's a read receipt in the Outbox by disabling immediate send and then after receiving a message, using a tool like Outlookspy to see if there's a receipt in the Outbox. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Yes, it is a read receipt.
The exchange account is my work email account. I have also added my personal email as an imap account. Today, I read an old unread message from a few weeks ago, in my personal imap account. The sender received a read receipt from my work exchange account, saying that I had just read the email. There is no read receipt in my sent items - But in Exchange, message tracking center, I can see that the read receipt was sent by my account. Looking through message tracking center, it seems it's only this one particular email that a read receipt was generated for. I just can't work out how or why it happened. You might consider asking in microsoft.public.exchange.admins, since Exchange seems to be involved. Control of receipts should be possible for non-Exchange accounts, but the Exchange Admins control receipt request handling for that type of account. When Exchange and other accounts are part of the same profile, Exchange has a habit of taking over for many things, so this might be a side-effect of that. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
