I asked this in microsoft.public.outlook.general but did not receive a
reply : Can anyone tell me how to import the Master Category List from my old installation of Outlook 2003 into my new install of the same version ? I exported everything else into a .pst file and got all my contacts etc but the Category List doesn't 't seem to be included ? Many thanks, Mike |
Import Master Category List in Outlook 2003 ?
Probably a result of the import. Importing a .PST file does two things:
A. You lose the following information: 1. Custom Forms 2. Custom Views 3. Connections between contacts and activities 4. Received dates on mail 5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar 6. Journal connections 7. Distribution Lists B. You almost always corrupt the Outlook profile in use To do it correctly: 1. With Outlook closed, make a COPY of the .PST file in the old Outlook 2003 installation. 2. Take this copy to your new installation and put it in a folder where it will NOT overwrite any existing .PST files (overwriting a .PST also causes profile corruption). 4. Open Outlook and then open the copied .PST file using 'File|Open|Outlook Data File' 5. Drag and drop the contents of the old .PST file into the new .PST file created with the new Outlook profile, or set this copy as the default .PST and continue to use it. Note that you still may have to create a new Outlook profile because the export/import functions very often corrupt the profile in use.
