Default Outlook 2008 send/receive detail windows

Why won't the send/receive details windows make an appearance unless I
bang on the send/receive button a couple times and then it goes through as
many cycles. I want to see the popup window as designed. I think I did the
option right but who knows.
Help please. TIA

Can you please clarify which version of Outlook you have? Help About.

What type of mail account do you have?

Ctrl+Alt+S for the settings dialog or do you mean the progress dialog, not
details? Once you get it up, pin it open (lower right corner). You can pop
it up using the status link in the right of the status bar.

Thank you for the prompt reply and the solution to my problem. Yes, I meant
