Default disappearing emails in Outlook 2003

I am running Outlook 2003 on WinXP SP2.

I see the box pop up in the lower right-hand corner indicating that a
new message has arrived, but when I open my Inbox, the message is not
there. No matter which way I sort the messages, there are no new ones.
This is happening on a broader scale. I usually receive 50 or more
emails per day. This morning, when I opened Outlook, I apparently
received no messages, yet when I check the server (via webmail), there
are no messages there. The odds that I received no messages at all
this morning (and none so far today) are about a million to 1.

I do NOT have any junk mail filters in place. There are no new
messages in my Junk Mail folder. My deleted items folder is empty
also.

This happened once before. I have google desktop installed. It had
cached the missing emails. This is the proof that the emails did
arrive in Outlook, but then immediately vanished. Thanks to Google, I
was able to read some important correspondence, but this is very
scary.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any ideas what could be
causing it? Any ideas of how I could fix it?

Thanks for your suggestions and support.

Are you perhaps filtering the view of your Inbox in Outlook? If you're
viewing only unread mail and have autopreview turned on, if mails are marked
to be read after 5 seconds then perhaps this is why you wouldn't see them.
Check View Current View. Make sure it's set to Messages. See if that helps.
If not, please post back.

What about in the Unread Mail search folder? Do they appear there and, if
so, what folder does it say they're in?

I too have this problem with Outlook 2003.

I see them come into the account, but then they disappear. I don't have any junk mail settings set. There is nothing in the Unread Mail folder either.

Can anyone please help???? I have to get my wife's email set up for her business asap!!

Thank you

Have you looked in the Deleted Items folder? Have you disabled any Outlook
add-in like anti-virus or -spam mail scanner? Have you reset the view?
Have you disabled any rules? What exactly have you done in an attempt to
diagnose?

What I was seeking was what can I do.

So, to answer your question, I haven't done anything as I don't know what I should do.

Any suggestion(s) would be appreciated.

Thank you

The most common cause of this behavior where I work is someone setting rules
or having a filter on.
1. Make sure you don't have any rules set. (Tools menu Rules & Alerts).
2. Make sure you don't have a filter set (View Arrange by Current View
The checkmark should be by messages to ensure you don't have a filter set)
