Deleting email messages in Outlook
I'm using M/S Outlook 2000 V. 9.0.0.2711
I've been having no trouble for the past 3 years or so but now when I try to delete a message from my inbox I get a message that reads "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." Restarting Outlook does not solve the problem nor does rebooting the computer. I've run my virus scan but nothing came up. What should I do now? |

First thing to try is to run ScanPST.EXE on your PST file to see if it's

Start using Microsoft's huge support knowledgebase when you have problems with Microsoft products. scanpst: http://support.microsoft.com/search/...mm=1&spid=2557 your error message: http://support.microsoft.com/search/...=1& spid=2557 What did you install now that changed your software environment? Do you run regular backups from which you could restore your .pst file? If you don't do backups, you deem your data as trivial or reproducible. |

Search for scanpst.exe using Windows search. Then point it to your .pst file.

Thank you for your help. It was as simple as clearing out a bunch of deleted
messages (about 2 year's worth) from my deleted items box. Deleting messages does not physically remove them from the file, and perhaps your file was getting to large (close to the 1.87GB limit). |

I am having the same problem as GaryT. I ran scanpst.exe - no change. I
upgraded from Outlook 2002 to Office 2007 - no change. I can not use permanent delete on the emails but I can empty the delete folder, which I have done. I still can't delete any message older than May 5. Newer ones delete just fine. Any suggestions?
