I have Outlook 2003. I had lost my PST file so every few days I've
been running the SCANPST on a copy I am now using (I make a backup each day). Each few days it notes some errors, I fix it, and I continue using it. When I originally tried to fix the PST file, SCANPST could not fix it. I tried about five other programs and no luck. I also tried creating a new PST file and copying the data from one PST file to the other. After originally copying the data, SCANPST found no errors. After using the PST file for a few days, errors keep happening. The errors seems to change each time. Is there any place that tells me what these errors mean? I just don't know what the errors are and if they are important as they seem to be sporadic but keep recurring each time after using the PST file for a few days. My PST file is about 8 GB in size. I'm guessing that too may have something to do with the errors. Thank you. Shawn |

Do you have anything accessing the pst, eg a DTS app?
Have you run chkdisk? Are you able to Archive then compact your pst? "srm" wrote in message ... I have Outlook 2003. I'm afraid I have to say, srm, that you're not exactly being responsible
here. How many other databases, personal ones, do you have that are 8 GIGABYTES in size? Not many, I venture. Until recent versions Outlook had trouble with Psts 2 gigs in size. Now you're pressing the envelope with 8. Not smart. Remember, PST refers to Personal stores. So create new subsidiary psts and distribute you messages into them. Break your file down. Then create Rules that move new messages into them automatically. Caelo's NEO or Xobni open multiple psts and let you look at the data in multiple views. Do that next, then get back here. Having it available and then not using it, I'm not sure I understand. If its available, why not use it? I had use tools in the past that allowed me to view multiple PST files, but stopped using them with O2003. It was easier with one PST file. I think also with a registry setting, O2003 PST files can even go beyond 20 GB. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of emails noting about PST errors that people found. However, I cannot find any listing that tells me if the errors are OK, if they are common, acceptable, etc. I have split the PST file into multiple PST files (less that 2 GB) and I still receive the errors so that did not resolve the issue. I get some, emails, update some contacts, tasks, etc. and it seems I always get errors each day. Why the errors happen, what causes them and why, I have no idea. So basically I'm still hoping someone will tell me what the errors are, what they mean, why they occur, if they OK, etc. I have not been able to find those answers anywhere. Not knowing if my Outlook is going to run each day is not a comfortable feeling knowing that basically each day errors are occurring in the file. Shawn |
