All at once, and for reasons unknown, I have lost the ability to invoke
Outlook from other applications. For instance: 1. Adobe Acrobat has an Email command off of its File menu. It no longer works. 2. Programs that support Send To Mail fail. 3. Scripts in my FileMaker database that send mail now issue the "Operation Failed" error. 4. And replying to posts here in the newsgroups now fail. These seem obviously related to a particular setting that has somehow changed in Outlook but I have no idea what it might be. Can anyone shed light on the conditions that need to be present in order for Outlook to play nice with other apps? I have been doing this successfully for years upon years; five days ago, something changed... -- Rick A. Pleasanton CA |

Did you install anything, like an application or an update to Windows, Office, or some other application? Have you reset your default mail program in Windows to be Outlook? -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Well, as an IT guy, my system is rarely standing still, but I can't point to
anything that could have caused this. Now a Windows update...hmm, I think one did come down on Tuesday. My default mail program shouldn't have to be reset, but in case something caused Windows to forget, how does one reestablish Outlook as the default mail app? Rick A. XP Pro, thanks... Use StartSet Program Access and Defaults. You also might want to see that, in Internet Explorer's ToolsInternet OptionsProgram dialogue that Outlook is the email handler. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
