I wish to read some old E-mail that has been archived and after reading the
MS help on the subject, I am not sure how to best do this, I don't wish to permanently restore all the previous e-mail or damage the present list. TIA Peter S. |

Then you can't. There is no "read acrchive" feature. You have to import
the archive. "LPS-AU" wrote in message ... I wish to read some old E-mail that has been archived and after reading the MS help on the subject, I am not sure how to best do this, I don't wish to permanently restore all the previous e-mail or damage the present list. TIA Peter S. |

Why would you not just open your Archive file and read it?

... You have to import the archive. There are DAILY postings on all the Outlook groups why importing native Outlook data should NOT be done. (Courtesy of Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]) Importing an entire PST may well corrupt your profile and may create a ghost PST that you can't close. Importing PST's will lose: 1. Custom Forms 2. Custom Views 3. Connections between contacts and activities 4. Received dates on mail 5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar 6. Journal connections 7. Distribution Lists Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise people to import a native file into Outlook. |

Thank you all for your assistance.
Have Opened the appropriate Data file and all is well again. At first it did confuse me which file I needed to open (I have five .pst files) but I was able to sort it out.
