Default importing outlook 2003 pst into windows mail

I am trying to import my outlook2003 PST files into windows mail. I am
routinely getting an error message saying: Messages cannot be imported from
the MAPI client. An error has occured. Any suggestions?

Place a copy of the .pst on the computer you are trying to import to ... the
desktop is a good location. And then import from the copy. You should have
no problem doing this. You cannot import from one computer to another.

You must have Outlook 2003 or 2007 (depending on the version of the .pst file - unicode versus ansi) installed on the new computer in order to export from Outlook to Windows Mail.

unsolicited mail sent to my personal account will be deleted without

I think you're wrong. I don't believe Windows Mail can import from a PST.

Is Outlook 2003 configured and operational?

Windows Mail can import from a .PST exactly the same way OE did, one must
have Outlook installed and functional on the (Vista) transfer machine and
connected to the .PST the data is to be transferred from. Windows Mail
offers Outlook and Exchange as transfer sources.

That's not importing from a PST. That's importing directly from Outlook.

Yes, from that standpoint, you're correct. To the best of my knowledge, NO
program but Outlook can natively open a .PST file. I misinterpreted your
response.

Apparently you missed the post to which I had responded. Here it is again:

Notice that Cathie says that you can import from the PST directly. Clearly
incorrect.
