I seem to have developed a problem with sending messages ...
Every so often, seemingly randomly, I compose a message and send it in the normal way only to observe it sitting in the Outbox whilst Outlook attempts to send it. This continues for a few minutes and then I receive an undeliverable message: The following recipient(s) could not be reached: ' on 22/11/2007 22:44 451 4.3.0 Error: queue file write error XXX YYY on 22/11/2007 22:44 451 4.3.0 Error: queue file write error Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Talk to your e-mail provider. It is their problem. Maybe they ran out of free disk space for their mail server's host. Per RFC 2821, the generic meaning of that error code is "451 Requested action aborted: error in processing". They screwed up in processing your e-mail. It is a server-side problem and you can't do anything about it. How many recipients were listed in the e-mail for which the 451 error occurred? How big was the e-mail (not what you composed but what you sent) that got this error? Did you empty out your Inbox folder using their webmail interface to your e-mail account? Have you checked the disk quota usage (i.e., your consumption of your allotment) using their webmail interface to see that statistic? Are you including attachments in your e-mails? If so, what filetype(s) are they? Does your e-mail provider scan outbound e-mails for viruses? Maybe you need to pack those executable attachments within a .zip file and attach that. Turn on the troubleshooting logging in Outlook. Check for which command sent by your e-mail client that the server is returning the 451 error. |

Hi
Thanks for the advice. In answer to your specific points: - 2 recipients - e-mail size was 7KB - yes, my e-mail Inbox folder on the ISP server had been synchronised to my own Outlook so was therefore empty - 'disk quota usage' - don't understand that or how to check it - no attachments - how do you turn-on 'troubleshooting logging' in Outlook? ... - how do you turn-on 'troubleshooting logging' in Outlook? Depends on the version of Outlook. In OL2002, go to Tools - Options - Other - Advanced - Enable mail logging This creates an opm.log file in your %temp% path. |

In OL2002, go to Tools - Options - Other - Advanced - Enable mail logging This creates an opm.log file in your %temp% path. I've read in a few places that this can be caused by a corruption in the contact information. It usually occurs when you select the address from the contacts folder rather than manually typing it in. I had the same problem with Outlook 2007. The email would sit in the outbox and then I would get a send error, but the email was still going out. The recipient would receive multiple copies of the email. If this is the problem you are having, try this: go through your contacts folder and open the contact listing(s) you seem to be having trouble with. After opening the listing, save and close it. This seems to correct whatever the corruption is, and it solved my problem. |
