Sharing and permissions puzzlements - possibly related to problemsarchiving folders
My boss uses Outlook 2003 and is also testing 2007 (connected to Exchange 2003). He has many different folders in his inbox, some nested several levels in. The problem is that some of these folders won't obey the standard auto-archive rules. i.e. older messages are not removed to the pst. We aren't sure why this is happening, and cannot seem to find any common threads among the different folders. One thing that does puzzle us, although I don't know if it has anything to do with the archive problem, is the different listings under "Sharing" or "Permissions" for each folder. Some folders only have "Anonymous" and "Default" listed (with "none" permissions). Some folders have additional entry for owner. Sometimes this is listed as "NT Users\Domain\Username," sometimes "GAL Display name" and sometimes it's the user that's logged into windows, and not the user that's the owner of the mailbox (we have different accounts for admin and non-admin access). Just hoping someone could shed a little light on these mysteries. Sharing and permissions puzzlements - possibly related to problemsarchiving folders

archive works on the modified date - if he moves the message or makes changes and saves it, the modified date is changed. Assuming the modified date is older than the archive date, try changing the permissions so they match what is on a folder where it works... I don't think it matters though. Yep, that was it. As we noticed about a little bit after I posted the message. Setting and clearing flags changes the modified date, so those actions were resetting the mod. date and keeping the questionable emails out of archive.
