I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007 to view one Yahoo mail account. New
messages that are imported (they
don't even have to be opened) into Outlook change the status of the
message
on Yahoo to "opened and read" even though the message was not yet
viewed on Yahoo. I want to maintain the "unread" status on Yahoo
until I
view it there. This is something that just began occurring last
week.
Previously my messages on Yahoo maintained their "unread" status
until
I opened them. Last week I just set up Outlook on another computer
to
import my Yahoo mail from this same account. The settings on both
computers appear to be identical. Please explain how I can maintain
the
"unread" status on the Yahoo account. Thank you.

That would take a knowledge of the conditions that cause Yahoo to makr
messages as read on the server and a Yahoo employee is the most likely
source of that information.

I did and I said that the information you need for this is mostly Yahoo
information which many (most?) of the people here don't have.

Are you downloading them or importing them? When you download, you are
marking them read on the server because that's how pop3 mail works. If you
are truely importing them from Yahoo (i.e., using a method other than
downloading using pop3) then the problem is with the method or software used
for the import.
