e-mail doesn't leave

I am not new to outlook, but I don't know what to do. Recently, Outlook will
not send e-mails. I get a variety of messages, and essentially they say there
is an interuption and/or a problem with my isp.( error 0x80042109) My isp is
comcast and they only service outlook express; they suggest calling MS and MS
wants money. I refuse to pay for help with outlook: A few years ago I was at
a MS tech meeting(as a biz user) and a man got up to speak. He said more
people have cursed his name than anyother person on earth. He was a
co-developer of Outlook.

I also recently downloaded IE7 and since then, I have had several problems
besides Outlook. A while back I had download IE7 beta, but had to remove it
because it interferred with my HP Scanner. I, with no knowledge, assume it
is IE7causing all of my new problems. Should I simply remove it and reload
IE6?
All I want to do is get my e-mail, do my work and go to bed. It is now
12:48AM and I am curisng my computer. I am sleepy and need to get up in the
morning.

PS. I know I could use other e-mail systems and I could use firefox.
However, I use outlook for contacts and other biz functions and would hate to
give it up

Ben: I appreciate your due diligence.

Yes, I have tried to use Detect and Repair. Not successful; window installer
opens, asks for my installation CD and then stops because it cannot find what
it needs. What happens is it asks for pro11n.msi. What is on my CD is
proI11n.msi. If I try to run it , it fails. There is a setup.exe on the disk,
but when window installer asks me to find the file and I select browse, it
forces me to find files that end in .msi and I call only find the one with an
"I" in it and that doesn't work There is also a history with this that began
after I installed IE 7. If I open word or other office products, I have no
problems. Howeve if i receive an e-mail with an office attachment, powerpoint
as an example, window installer opens up, and I go thru the process
described above. It takes several attempts, with window installer trying to
run and run, then finally Powerpoint wll open up.

Why is life so complicated?
