Have you tried recreating your Outlook profile to see if the issue is
profile-based or PST-based?

Do you really think this is a virus problem?

Default Outlook has stopped working

Thanks I tried this and thought it may have solved the problem because it
seemed stable for once. However today when I went to reply to a message it
grayed out and said' MS outlook has stopped working'.
But it does seem to be a bit better.

Have you tried a repair of your PST? Not a repair from the Help menu which
repairs Outlook but a repair of your data file.

Default Outlook has stopped working

Sorry I dont know what a PST is or how to repair.
I am about to give up on Outlook 2007 and go back to Thunderbird. It runs
fine.
I just hate being out $100 for software that is not stable.

Default Outlook has stopped working

Outlook runs well for millions of people and businesses. It's normally quite
stable.
Depending on how you get your mail (you'll have to advise if you're using a
POP3 or Exchange account, Exchange is normally used in a business
environment), you may or may not be using a PST file.
An Outlook PST file for a home user is the default data file where
transactions occur. It's the destination for incoming mail. It can corrupt
but there is a repair tool for it and all you have to do is a file search for
scanpst.exe.
An Outlook PST for an Exchange user is not the default data file but a
storage file to help offset the mailbox size limits usually imposed in most
businesses. It has the potential to corrupt and the repair is the same.
Make sure you unhide all hidden folders and files (use Windows Explorer to
do that). Close Outlook. Search for scanpst.exe using your file/folder search
function. When you locate it, double-click it and follow all the instructions
including locating your PST file and scanning it. If any errors are found
they should be repaired. Run scanpst.exe until no errors are found. Open
Outlook to see if this has helped.

Ok if found the scanpst.exe and when I double click it asks 'enter the name
of the file you want to scan'.
What file do I want to scan and where would it be.?

Ok if found the scanpst.exe and when I double click it asks 'enter the
name
of the file you want to scan'.
What file do I want to scan and where would it be.?

the default file is called Outlook.pst and it's default location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\{your account name}\Local Settings\Application

You should be able to browse to it if you're actually using one. Did you
locate your PST file so you know where it is? It's probably called
outlook.pst but not necessarily, if it has been renamed at any point.

It's usually located either:

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

or

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Is it not your archive.pst.

Sorry I dont know what a PST is or how to repair.
I am about to give up on Outlook 2007 and go back to Thunderbird. It runs
fine.
I just hate being out $100 for software that is not stable.

Have you tried a repair of your PST? Not a repair from the Help menu which

It's the MAPI start page deleted message that leads me to think the problem

Event 29 for Outlook.exe.
Have you tried recreating your Outlook profile to see if the issue is
profile-based or PST-based?

However I have run 2 different Virus scans, both in the deep mode. I also

Viruses while in the 'safe mode'. Still nothing showed up.
Do you really think this is a virus problem?

Since there is not yet a standard set for spyware detection as there is for
viruses, I would recommend that you use the Trend Micro online virus scan in
addition to the antivirus you're already using. I would also recommend that
you download and install two antispyware apps and run them since I've seen
them pick up viruses that antispyware doesn't. Just to make sure.

Default Outlook has stopped working

I have a POP3 account (home use).
I did find scanpst.exe but when I ran a scan of my hard drive I could not
find any pst files (ran *.*.pst and *.*pst as well as outlook*.*pst). It
apprears I have no PST file.
