Hiya..
I have a user that, when they receive a message from a particular law firm, and they attempt to reply to it, the text from the original message is removed, though, the law firms 'disclaimer' remains intact. This also happens on forwards. This user does not have their Outlook set to remove the text in their options.. And as stated, this only happens with this particular law firm. I have opened the email message, and looked for macros, but there don't appear to be any. So.. my question is: How are they doing it? How does this law firm force recipients to lose the original text during a reply or forward? On our end, it is Outlook 2k3 and Exchange 2k3 Enterprise. I have no idea what is on their end. |

This also happens on forwards. Usually the result of scanning incoming and/or outgoing mail with a misbehaving antivirus scanner. This user does not have their Outlook set to remove the text in their options.. And as stated, this only happens with this particular law firm. Then I suspect it's the that law firm's problem, but make sure you're not contributing. Do NOT scan mail with an antivirus scanner. You will not be more vulnerable as long as your AV program's on-access scanner continues to operate. -- Brian Tillman |

I WANT to be able to emulate that behavior elsewhere. This definately not an anti-virus behavior since, as I said, it only happens on messages from one particular company. Doesn't matter the text of the message, or if the message has no attachments. It does NOT happen on any other messages from any other user or outside company. It isn't a problem, either.. If it were a macro, I would expect to see it, and, the user would have been prompted (usually) based on their security settings. When this user hits reply/forward from a message that was sent by ONE PARTICULAR COMPANY (any user in that company), the original text disappears, EXCEPT for the disclaimer (and the signature of the sender). Unfortunately, the text can be cut and pasted before hitting reply, but, as a simple measure, it's actually a nice feature for confidential email messages. So.. again, my question remains.. how does this happen, and how can I emulate it. |
