Wrong file attached. Caching?
I've been seeing a very strange problem, and it has even interfered
with a job application. I am running Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8122) SP2 on Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP2. Summary: --------------- I attach the correct file to an Outlook email. My recipient receives a different file. Question: -------------- What can I do to stop this from happening? Details: ----------- Yesterday I selected all stored versions of my resume, right clicked, and selected "Open". I looked through the different file versions, found the one I wanted to use as the starting point for a version to send for a job I'm applying to. I chose "Save As", gave it a new name based on the job I'm applying to, closed all the files and re-opened the new file. After making the desired changes, I saved, and then copied the file to the desktop and gave it the name I want the email recipient to see: my name_Resume.doc. At that point I clicked and dragged this new resume onto an open compose email window in Outlook. The correct file name appeared. I trusted that the correct file was attached and sent the email. The recipient emailed back concern that I would include a past employer's logo on my resume. An older version of my resume had been attached under the new name. !?!?!?!? These changes did not change the behavior: -creating a new file and copying and pasting the correct resume contents into it. -selecting the correct file with the attach file browse GUI from the new email message, instead of click and drag I may have successfully worked around the bug by sharing the resume directory with a different computer, attaching it to a new gmail email that I sent to the employer and bcc'd my gmail account and my normal account configured into outlook. From the other computer I opened the attachment from the received bcc email. It showed the correct, new resume contents. From the computer running Outlook, I opened the attachment from the new email and was shown the old, incorrect version of the resume. It seems to me that caching of attachments is going on in Outlook, and something is causing it to think it can use an old, cached file. Your insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Steve- PS: I did not see an FAQ. If this is covered there, please just let me know where the FAQ lives. |

Scratch this.
It was the correct file. What I was unaware of was that in Word, View Normal does not display the headers and footers. Other views do, and I was not using them. My newest resume still had artifacts from an old resume. Thanks! |
