Hello,
I am having an issue that I would imagine others have had too, but I'm unable to find a solution on the newsgroups or internet. Here is the situation: * My old laptop was XP with Outlook 2003 * I have just received a new laptop with Vista and Outlook 2007 * On my old laptop, i have MANY email addresses that are NOT saved as contacts, but that would auto-fill for me when I began to type their name in Outlook 2003 * Now on my new laptop, Outlook 2007 doesn't have that same auto-fill list so I've lost those email addresses When I moved from Outlook 2003 to 2003 before, I just copied over the .NK2 file and all worked fine (the autofill addresses showed up on the new machine). Now it appears Outlook 2007 uses a different mechanism and doesn't recongize/use my old .NK2 file. Is there anyway possible I can get my autofill list from Outlook 2003 to my new machine using Outlook 2007? I don't want to have to save these all as contacts just to migrate them...any ideas? Never mind, I finally figured it out. For those who need to do the same:
On the XP/Outlook 2003 machine: 1. Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook 2. Locate the .NK2 file in this directory and copy or move it to the Vista machine On the Vista/Outlook 2007 machine: 1. Close Outlook and navingate to C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft\outloo k 2. Rename the existing .NK2 file by changing the extension of the filename (.NK3 for example) 3. Rename the file you moved from the XP machine to be the same as the file noted in step 2 (with the correct extension of .NK2 of course) 4. Start Outlook, and the autocomplete addresses should be there! These steps assume you have enabled hidden files/folders, and are showing file extensions in your folder properties. Thanks Diane...I found my problem was I just assumed the .nk2 was in a
different directory and didn't go hunting in the other folders of appdata. I got it though...thanks! Jason "Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote in message ... I believe it's the same - allow outlook 2007 to create an nk2 file, close outlook and locate the nk2 then replace it with the old one, making sure the file name is identical. If not, rename the old one so it replaces the new one. Now... if the problem is that outlook doesn't seem to be using any NK2 and starts with a blank slate everytime, outlook 2007 is not closing properly. Once it closes completely the NK2 will work when it reopens. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Author, Teach Yourself Outlook 2003 in 24 Hours Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Subscribe to Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: "Jason" wrote in message ...
