Default activity of an email account

Is there any way to know whether an email account is active (it used to
be).

Best regards,

Where is the email account? On a server within your organization or on some
external server?

Then there's no way to know whether or not the account is active. Ideally,
the SMTP command VRFY should tell you, but most SMTP servers respond either
positively or negatively to all VRFY queries so that you can't tell.
