Default Outlook 2007 hangs

I change settings in outlook 2007 and then exit the application. When I try
to restart the app nothing happens. I wind up needed to restart windows and
then start the app. At this point outlook asks if I want to start in safe
mode. I am running windows vista. Does anyone know what might cause this?
