I've got any interesting one here, and I don't really understand it, but I
would be grateful if any one could help... I've been using Gmail with Outlook 2003 since it was first available..., and my ISP was PIPEX.... I never had any problems, I could happily send any thing up to 10MB as an attachment... In the last few weeks I've changed ISP's to BT INTERNET, and I now find that I cannot send even a 3MB attachment.... It tries to do it but fails.... Nothing has changed on my PC as I connect via an external router, so all I've done is change the username and password... Has any one else come across this problem...?. It looks very much like BT are the problem but I have no idea how...?, as Gmail is not ISP dependant.., or have I got that wrong...? As a test, if I log on to my Gmail via the Webmail interface (without using Outlook), I can send the attachments as usual and they work fine.... I'm a bit lost here... It's got to be BT...., hasn't it...? |

Hi Colin,
There is a limit in sending attachments in Outlook.....The limit is 3mb Unfortunately...... You will able to send emails on the webmail with large attachment because webmail uses HTTP server...Whereas Outlook uses SMTP and POP3 server.... These server have limitation of only 3mb..... ... Hi Colin, There is a limit in sending attachments in Outlook.....The limit is 3mb Unfortunately Rubbish. I regularly send attachments of more than 3MB.....its the *ISP* that puts the limit on attachment size..... -- Gordon Burgess-Parker Systems and Management Accounting www.gbpcomputing.co.uk |

Hi there...
No error messages.... It just tries to send the email then seems to give up..., leaving it in the Outbox... I've just tried another test... This time I have disconnected my BT Broadband connection and re connected to the internet via ny 56k modem and my old Free Online connection... I can send 5mb + attachments without any problem.... So it's not Gmail and it's not Outlook.... So this must mean that it's either BT or a setting in my Linksys WAG54GX2 that is causing the problem... All I've changed in my router is the login name and password.... It seems to be working fine, apart from this "odd" email problem.... Any help or ideas would be much appreciated... Thanks Brian,
Well is was an odd one... I'm based in the U.K. What seems to have sorted the problem was to set the DSL MODULATION setting to T1.413... It was set to AUTO when I was with Pipex as my Broadband supplier and I had no problems...., but this was the only setting on my WAG54GX2 that would allow me to send a 2MB + sized attachment... All very odd... As another test, I set up my old Speedtouch 330 modem and that automatically set the DSL MOD setting to Gdmt.A, which does not seem to be available on the Linksys, but that worked fine... The nearest option on the Linksys was g.dmt which didn't work... I tried setting the MTU to 1500 and that failed..., may be I could have tried it lower... What ever the problem is it seems to be localised to BT Broadband and the Linksys WAG54GX2.... |
