I have never really used Outlook before, but I thought I'd try it just to see
if it worked better. I figured there had to be some bright sides to it. Anyway, i managed to get two email accounts linked into it. But, with my sbcyahoo account, when it linked, it downloaded all the emails I had on there. So now, when I check my email the regular way from the sbcyahoo website, it says i have nothing in my inbox. I was wondering if there was a way to keep them the same so that my email will show up on both outlook and the website. Also, if that can happen, is there a way to get all the old emails that were downloaded back onto the website as well? I'd like to be able to use Outlook but still check and access my email from another computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Any POP account/client will automatically download the mail and remove it from the server. To change this, you need to go to the properties of the POP account and find the box marked "Leave a copy of messages on server." and tick it. Note that you will need to make sure your mailbox on that server does not exceed your quota with SBC. Also, if that can happen, is there a way to get all the old emails that were downloaded back onto the website as well? No, unfortunately not unless you forward them back to yourself. I'd like to be able to use Outlook but still check and access my email from another computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

If you are using Outlook 2003, then go to Tools-Options-Mail Setup-Email
Accounts. Select your Account from View or Change and Change it. On the Advanced Tab there is a check box to leave mail on the server. -- Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook] Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. I had that box checked when I set my email account up. It still downloaded
all the emails to outlook. I unchecked it because I figured...what is it doing then? After reading your response, I went back and re-checked it and sent myself a test email and it worked...so thank you very much...the only problem I have left is if there is any way to get my old emails back onto the website...even if i cant necessarily keep them on outlook "Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]" wrote: If you are using Outlook 2003, then go to Tools-Options-Mail Setup-Email Accounts. Whenever you set up a new mail client, be it Outlook or any other client, it has no idea what has been previously downloaded. It will download whatever is in the Inbox of the mailbox on the server. the only problem I have left is if there is any way to get my old emails back onto the website...even if i cant necessarily keep them on outlook There is no good way to do that. POP is a one-way protocol for mail. You could remail them all to yourself, although that's certainly not an ideal option. -- Brian Tillman |
