Rule with criteria "Message Read"

Hi,
I would like to create a rule where I can automatically move
messages from my inbox to a .pst folder based on who sent the messages
and that the message has been "read". In other words, I would like to
leave messages that I haven't read from that person in my inbox.
I can only see the option to change the status to "read" in the rule
wizard. It doesn't seem to give me the option to use the status "read"
as criteria.

Does anyone know how this can be done?

Thanks heaps,
Daniel.

The closest I could get was under the "flagged for action". It mentions
the status "read" there, but when I run the rule wizard, it fails to
pick up the message.

Since automatic rules act upon incoming messages which are, by definition,
unread, I don't see how that's possible. If the Rules Wizard were able to
test the read state of a message as a condition, then conceivably you could
do it with a manual message, but that condition doesn't exist. You could
mark the message with an action (like Follow Up) and then test the state of
that action, but again, the rule would have to be run manually.

Hi Brian,
thanks for the response! :) However, I don't think rules are
purely for incomming messages. Rules should be able to be run at any
time. In my case, I would like to use the rules to organise my Inbox.
This is also mentioned when I click on the "Organise" option under
"Tools". It suggests one way of organising things is to use rules.

I would just like to move all my messages from certain people that have
been "read" to certain folders. I may have to resort to manually
flagging each individual message to get it to recognise the message,
but then I will not be able to use the follow up functionality.

All the best,
Daniel.

How you would like to use rules does not have any relationship to how they
work. Rules can only be rub upon receipt or upon sending email.

you need to use a 3rd party tool to move messages later. I use auto-mate but
there are others.

Sure, if you run it manually, but I already said that, as you well know.

You could also use categories. Assign specific categories to the messages
and then use the condition that tests categories.

Hi Brian,
thanks for that. I will look into marking the incomming messages
using categories.

All the best,
Daniel. :)

Hi Neil,
when I say "should be able to be run", I mean according to the
documentation they should be able to be run, not a wish on my part.

All the best,
Daniel.
