Default File association ?

If I click on a mail link ie, mpierce[at]someplace.org, Outlook will
issue a warning re the mail client is not properly installed and will
not open an email. Instead it might spawn 45 copies of IE.

How can I repair this?

I've tried to add MSG to file extensions so I could use Microsoft
Outlook 2003 but I can't find the program.
Where is the actual program?

The first thing to do is open IE (or use one of the 45 copies) and click
ToolsInternet OptionsPrograms and see what's in the E_mail drop-down. You
should see "Microsoft Office Outlook".
